Created: 25/Mar/09 07:01 PM   Updated: 26/Aug/09 12:33 PM
Component/s: None
Affects Version/s: 3.2.5.2-fuse
Fix Version/s: 4.1 - beta

Environment: Windows XP

 Description  « Hide
Downloaded and unpacked the Windows version of the 3.2.5.2 Agent bundle from:

http://fusesource.com/products/fuse-hq/download-fuse-hq

Tried to edit the agent.properties file. It opens in NotePad but is not editable, It is not formatted correctly, has a lot of strange characters, and is almost imposssible to read. You can open it in WordPad, but file is invalid after saving.

Windows users expect to be able to edit this type of file in NotePad.

The agent.properties file should be a text only file, with no weird characters and editable. I don't have a Windows box to test on, but I'll see who can look into this. I assume it's not just a bad install, and it's reproducible, correct? Thanks for reporting this.

Adrian, one more thing. It seems that you installed the agent bundle. Could you please try the installer which installs both the agent and server and see if you have the same problem? Thanks

It's reproducible. The problem was verified today by Marty Messer at Hyperic. (By the way, he found the agent.properties editible on version 4.x, so the problem only exits on 3.x).

I will run the installer now and comment when I am done.

Installed Agent using the fuse-hq-installer. agent.properties was fine. Opened by default in NotePad and was readable and editable.

Thanks for confirming this. Nick had the same experience. If this is the case there is a workaround. Use the installer on the agent side as well and use just option 3, which will install the agent but not the server.

Can you confirm this is fixed in 4.1-beta?
